The 3rd China-ASEAN Meteorological Forum was held in Nanning, Capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, on September 16, 2023, with the theme of “Closer Regional Cooperation, Smarter Climate Adaptation”. Representatives from meteorological services from China and ASEAN member states, as well as Hong Kong, China and Macau, China, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee, as well as relevant institutions and enterprises in China, etc. participated in the forum.
The forum conducted in-depth discussions over new technologies empowering disaster prevention and mitigation and has reached consensus on deepening regional meteorological cooperative mechanism, conducting typhoon scientific research, consolidating international training, promoting the implementation of UN Early Warnings for All initiative, etc.

Furthermore, invited delegates from Malaysian Meteorological Department, CMA National Meteorological Centre and Shanghai Municipal Meteorological Service delivered presentations on experience in meteorological monitoring, forecasting and service, the application of AI technology in nowcasting, as well as development of megacity multi-hazard early warning toolbox for improved capability of Early Warnings for All.
Participants spoke highly of the role of this cooperative platform in enhancing regional meteorological cooperation, in particular, disaster prevention and mitigation, new technology application, personnel exchange, human resource and expertise development, and so on.
During the forum, the launching of the Belt and Road Meteorological Visiting Scholar Program was announced. The program aims at joint cultivation of senior meteorological operational and management staff. It was highly acclaimed by representatives from ASEAN member states.

During the 1st China-ASEAN Meteorological Forum, Nanning Initiative on China-ASEAN Cooperation in Meteorology-Regional monitoring of and co-preparedness for meteorological disasters was approved. Based on this mechanism, the meteorological cooperation between China and ASEAN member states have continued to deepen and scored fruitful results.
