On March 2, an outreach event on the 62nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, which presented the outcomes of IPCC-62.
Mr. XIONG Shaoyuan, Deputy Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and Ms. Ko Barrett, Deputy Secretary-General of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) attended this event. IPCC Bureau Members and the Secretariat, as well as over 50 experts and scholars from universities, research institutes and meteorological departments took part in the event.
XIONG Shaoyuan expressed that CMA had accumulated rich meteorological service and practice experience in early warning, and constantly improved technologies, models and mechanisms, vigorously underpinning the high-quality socioeconomic development and better life for the people. He remarked that China would collaborate with other countries to build early warning platforms and share its experience in meteorological services.
Ko Barrett highly commended the leadership role demonstrated by CMA in IPCC work and response to climate change. She stated that China's practice in early warning had set an exemplary template for the world. She also recognized China's meteorological departments' practice in adhering to a people-oriented approach and working closely with the government and relevant departments to ensure people's safety, and remarkable contributions in supporting other countries in early warning capacity building.
Mr. Abdalah Mokssit, IPCC Secretary also spoke highly of the outcomes of IPCC-62 and the strenuous efforts and close-knitted collaboration behind it. He highly acclaimed the organization of the IPCC-62 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, extending his heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese counterparts.
IPCC-62 agreed on the outlines of IPCC Working Group I Report,Working Group II Report, and Working Group III Report. In future, the work on the Seventh IPCC Assessment Report will be carried out in accordance with these outlines. During the event, the Co-Chairs of Working Group I and II, Vice-Chair of Working Group III, and Co-Chair of TFI shared insights and directions about key takeaways of IPCC-62. Relevant officials from IPCC Secretariat also delivered informative presentations.
At the end of the event, experts and scholars specializing in climate change and journalists had exchanges with IPCC Bureau Members and the Secretariat.
