China continues to support Early Warnings for All

As the 79th Session of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)'s Executive Council comes to a close, we can expect that more fruits will come out of multilateral cooperation and the respective efforts of individual Member of WMO. As a crucial player of WMO, China continuously supports the United Nations' Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL) initiative.

Delivering weather forecasting services to the globe

This scenario is emerging before our eyes. Experts from CMA and Vietnam are consulting on the track and impact of this year's first Typhoon Wutip through an online weather consultation meeting.

It is a collaboration on tackling extreme weather between both sides, which is a symbol of further boosting disaster prevention and mitigation capacities for both countries.

It is just a case in point.

This year, World Meteorological Centre Beijing(WMC-BJ) is continuously delivering tailored forecasting services to countries raged by various kinds of extreme weather such as typhoon, rainstorm, cold wave, heat wave, floods, and collaborating together to ramp up bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

Special weather reports are produced one by one in a timely manner, delivering more information for relevant countries to grapple with those extreme weather and climate events.

FENGYUN meteorological satellites monitor meteorological data

At the end of May, 2025, the cyclone cloud system over Bay of Bengal has brought heavy precipitation to Bangladesh and Myanmar. FENGYUN meteorological satellite 4B was monitoring this weather process.

Last week, the 79th Session of WMO's Executive Council has announced that its top honor, the IMO Prize, will be awarded to Prof. XU Jianmin of China, one of the founders of China's meteorological satellite system construction, and a leader in satellite data application and services.

FENGYUN meteorological satellites, as a “global server”, are conducting global monitoring and contributing to global observation development and disaster preparedness.

For example, FY-2H is particularly useful for Belt and Road partner countries, while FY-4B is particularly useful for countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia.

On April 24 this year, on the occasion of Space Day of China, CMA officially unveiled the new-generation integrated space weather operational system, namely, FY Space Weather, which signifies that China has stepped up to a new level in enhancing space weather monitoring and early warning capabilities.

With more development plans in store, FY satellitesare believed to further contribute its strength to implementing EW4ALL.

China continues to commit early warning plan to the globe

Through contributing more practice and experience in early warning, China continuously commits to EW4LL.

Next step, CMA will further boost cooperation with WMO and relevant countries in early warnings, disaster prevention and mitigation, and artificial intelligence (AI) meteorological applications.

Through the concerted endeavor of the global community, we will bear witness to more outcomes in early warnings collaboration and global sustainable development.
