  SWAN

  Severe Weather Auto Now-forecasting System is short for “SWAN” which is the short-term and nowcasting business considering strong weather based on MICAPS construction, and can satisfy the forecasting warning business needs for short-term and nowcasting disasters. SWAN provides abundant and practical display analysis processing on radar and automatic station, and benefits the forecasters to report the severe convection weather warning, lightning position, and storm tracking more efficiently.

  Professional typhoon forecasting analysis system

  This system is a professional typhoon forecasting analysis service platform which is specific to typhoon forecast analysis based on MICAPS construction. Conduct searching, statistics, analysis for typhoon data and quality inspection for forecasting result, distribute and manage the typhoon products, establish the display of typhoon track, forecast products and releasing, and realize intellectualization, automation, integration and real-time transformation for typhoon businesses.

  MICAPS functions

  Meteorological Information Comprehensive Analysis and Process System is short for “MICAPS”, which is made up of data acceptance and preprocessing, man-human interaction analysis, and products making and releasing to receive various meteorological observation data from information service, to realize visual graphics through preprocessing. It provides multiple interactive analysis correction methods for forecasters to produce the products finally. Detailed construction contents of MICAPS system: 

  Data receiving and preprocessing subsystem

  Acquire meteorological data from information business required by MICAPS system, and pretreat the data into accessible format. Main functions include data preprocessing and data storage.

  Man-machine interaction analysis subsystem

  Establish high-efficient and stable man-human interaction analysis system, and display the conventional observation, nonconventional data of numerical forecasting products, cloud picture, radar, lightning position, wind profiler by graphic image. Provide various graphic editing and processing interactive function for forecasters.

  Products making and releasing subsystem

  Provide standard template products and customized products making function, procedures management for forecasters, and products releasing management strategy to satisfy sharing services and realize flexible and high-efficient effect. Main functions include forecasting graphics making and products approval and management, etc..

  1) Meteorological graphics display function

  Include various conventional meteorological observation data and numerical mode products display, basic geographic information, GPS moisture data time sequence, wind profile data, radar data (base data and PUP products), satellite data (nominal graph, AWX cloud picture and products, GPF format), netCDF data, space-time profile of sounding data, space-time profile of model data, stamp graph of model data and section, WS data monitoring, 1-D graphics (e.g. rose diagram and pie chart), etc.

  2) Animation display function

  Support animation display of various MICAPS and interactive signs. 

  3) Man-machine interactive analysis function

  Include isoline modification, weather system and weather region analysis, convection weather potential analysis, TlogP sounding analysis and table data correction, etc.

  4) Professional computing function

  Include ground and discrete points data statistics, live and model rainfall accumulation, spherical distance and approximate sphere area calculation.

  5) Products making and process management function

  Include city forecasting interaction making, basic forecasting process management, text-file editing and transmission, image and animation production and conservation, conference support function.

  SWAN functions

  SWAN system increases developed short-term arithmetic and short-term products display extended function on MICAPS basic edition, and extends the data processing, introduces high frequency, short interval, multipath real-time products server platform, and the products server can inform clients the refresh situations. SWAN products server installs short-term models on system to form short-term products generating capacity.

 

  High Temperature, High Wind, Strong Radar Return Warning and Storm Tracking

 

  On data display and interaction, considering short-term products, add the one which can monitor servers messages based on Micaps3 model standards in client-side, and update dedicated products automatically.

  SWAN system functions:

  Inspecting products display: 3-D puzzle based on radar data, combine reflectivity puzzle, echo rise puzzle, vertical liquid water contents puzzle, one-hour estimation rainfall, COTREC wind field from front and back echo relation, live monitoring warning of automatic station, radar return warning, convection cloud identification, lightning position.

  Forecasting products display: One-hour reflectivity forecasting, one-hour precipitation forecasting, storm centroid identification and tracking, TITAN.

  Forecast verification products display: one-hour precipitation forecasting, one-hour reflectivity factor forecasting, nowcasting verification of storm centroid identification and tracking.

  Warning information making, etc.

  Through collecting real-time typhoon data, this system collects the typhoon data of each releasing center, the message explanation transition, and establishes real-time typhoon database and forms the typhoon history data with the best path to the history database

  The professional typhoon forecasting analysis system, according to live conditions, forecasting, typhoon releasing center and strength, carries out different patterns of manifestation for the typhoon paths, and takes advantage of current primary mapping method to conduct man-human interactive making for typhoon forecasting products, and database management for analyzed forecasting results, combining with real-time database and history database, searches, collects and analyzes the typhoon data, and impacts the quality of the forecasting results, distributes and manages the typhoon products, establishes tropical cyclone path display, forecasting products making and releasing, thus realizing intelligent, automatic, integrated and real-time comprehensive typhoon information processing.

 

  3-D Display of Meteorological Data.

  The collection and explanation transition of real-time typhoon data, establishment of typhoon database and retrieval pages, dynamic loading of real-time data, display search of real-time typhoon data, interactive making tools of typhoon forecasting path, editing and storage of typhoon notice, retrieval and sending of message, typhoon fax mapping, making and distribution of forecasting products.   MICAPS technology applies C/S framework. According to detailed needs for forecasting service units, MICAPS system can apply flexible layout form (e.g. the client-side and server are deployed on the meteorological station, or the client-side is deployed on meteorological station while information center is for server, etc.) to satisfy flexible and high-efficient service management needs and guarantee safe and stable forecasting service process.

  4. Information process

  According to service processing logic of MICAPS system, the service processing procedures include multisource meteorological data preprocessing phase, man-human interactive analysis phase and production phase of forecasting products.

  Multisource meteorological data preprocessing phase: Mainly preprocess various meteorological data received by information service system to directly displayed format for man-human interactive analysis phase.

  Man-human interactive analysis phase: Mainly complete graphic display of meteorological data, and form forecasting decision through man-human interactive analysis correction.

  Production phase of forecasting products: Make detailed forecasting products.
