The Forum on High-quality Meteorological Development and Cooperation of the Sixth China-Arab States Expo was held in Yinchuan, Ningxia on September 21, where the Megacity Multi-hazard Early Warning Toolbox made debut as an important step to promote the implementation of the Early Warnings for All initiative.
As one of the advanced scientific and technological achievements displayed at the forum, this toolbox, developed by the Shanghai Meteorological Service, promotes to the world the good practice in megacity multi-hazard early warning and provides supporting services for professional users and those working in urban management and meteorological services globally, especially in the countries and regions along the Belt and Road.
The toolbox integrates institutional tools, algorithmic model tools, operational system tools,experience and cases that underpin the risk assessment, monitoring and early warning, information dissemination, and emergency response under the megacity multi-hazard early warning, provides the options of ready-to-use services, open-source interfaces, customized services, and collection and sharing, and offers the full-chain weather-based and scenario-based solutions according to the common problems facing cities in urban disaster prevention and mitigation.
For the next step, the Shanghai Meteorological Service will deepen exchanges with the countries with application demands and provide toolbox application services for developing and underdeveloped countries through China-ASEAN and China-Arab cooperation, and other occasions.
