WMO: Climate change and extreme weather impacts hit Asia hard
Asia remained the world's most disaster-hit region from weather, climate and water-related hazards in 2023. Floods and storms caused the highest number of reported casualties and economic losses, whilst the impact of heatwaves became more severe, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
In focus: Extreme heavy precipitation occurs in southern China
Since April 19, 2024, continuous heavy rainfall and severe convective weather have been observed in the southern parts of South of the Yangtze River Region and South China, characterized by large accumulated rainfall, high degree of overlap in heavy rainfall areas, extreme rainfall intensity, and distinct severe convective features.
