On March 25, Dr. CHEN Zhenlin, Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), met with Mr. Phil Evans, Director-General of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) in Beijing, and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in fields such as Earth system observation, space weather, early warning and artificial intelligence (AI). An extension to an agreement for satellite data application, exchange and redistribution between CMA and EUMETSAT was signed. Dr. CAO Xiaozhong, Deputy Administrator of CMA attended the signing ceremony.

Dr. CHEN Zhenlin highly appreciated the outstanding work done by EUMETSAT as the permanent secretariat of Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS). He expressed that bilateral cooperation has benefited the international community through the exchange and data sharing, and made an important contribution to the WMO Space Programme. He hoped both sides would deepen exchanges and cooperation in emerging sectors such as AI and space weather, give full play to the role of next-generation meteorological satellites, and contribute more to the implementation of global initiatives such as the United Nations Early Warnings for All Initiative.

Mr. Phil Evans thanked CMA for its continuous support for CGMS and EUMETSAT. He said that in recent years, both sides have expanded cooperation areas, achieved fruitful results, and benefited a wide community of users. He anticipated both sides would continue to consolidate practical cooperation under bilateral and multilateral frameworks, support the implementation of the UN Early Warnings for All Initiative, and jointly endeavor to provide better products and services to global users.
On the same day, CMA-EUMETSAT High-level Bilateral Meeting was convened and participants engaged in-depth discussions over issues like data exchange, commercial satellite application, and comprehensive calibration network.
On March 26, CMA-EUMETSAT Technical/Scientific Workshop was held in Beijing, focusing on topics like scientific cooperation, technical cooperation, and CGMS cooperation.
