The 60th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was held from January 16 to 19 in Istanbul, Türkiye. Mr. XIONG Shaoyuan, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) led the Chinese delegationinattendingthis event.
The agenda of this meeting covers the deliberation and identification of the scoping for the Seventh Assessment Report Cycle (AR7) of the IPCC, and the clarification of outputs concerning the AR7 working group contributions, synthesis report, special reportandmethodology report.
XIONG led the Chinese delegation in making interventions, getting deeply involved in the overall design of the new cycle of IPCC assessment and contributing Chinese solutions to the scientific and objective formation of the assessment products therein. Dr. ZHANG Xiaoye, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Researcher of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS), participated in the meeting as Co-chair of IPCC Working Group I (WGI).
It was decided that 3 working group contributions, 1 synthesis report, 1 special report on climate change and cities and 1 methodology report on short-lived climate forcers would be published in the seventh cycle of the IPCC.
It is reported thatin the seventh IPCC assessment cycle, China will promote strategic research on key scientific issues, organize the selection and recommendation of outstanding Chinese scientists for the preparation of scientific assessment reports and expert reviews,and actively demonstrate its research results and experience in the field of climate changeto the international community, contributing to a fair, reasonable, cooperative andwin-win global climate governance system.
