Fom March 2, Ganxian District, Ganzhou, Jiangxi, China, has been experiencing strong lightning and short-term heavy precipitation for several days. At 9:30 on March 4, a disaster risk hazard information reporter of Luotian Village, Shadi Town, found that there was a mountain crack in front of the house of a villager's centralized living place during his inspection, and reported it immediately.
On February 28, Ganxian District Meteorological Office sent meteorological information materials to the district government and relevant departments. From 12:00 on March 3, the Office continuously issued thunder and lightning yellow, gale blue and hail orange warning signals, which were quickly sent directly to more than 6,000 emergency responders and primary-level information reporters in the District through text messages, WeChat and other channels.
After receiving the meteorological warning information, village responders and information reporters conducted an overall investigation of geologic disaster risk points.
At the same time, Ganxian District Emergency Management Department in conjunction with natural resources, meteorology and other departments and Shadi Town Government quickly organized experts to go to the scene to investigate, confirming the existence of more than 50 m of cracks in the mountain, and there are signs of new cracking and sinking, landslides may occur at any time, threatening the households under the mountain and the safety of high-voltage power transmission lines. The Luotian Village Committee transferred and relocated 6 households and 32 people involved in the danger overnight, and set up physical isolation facilities and warning signs in the danger zone.
“The meteorological warning information provided an important decision-making basis for us to carry out timely defense and emergency rescue work.” LIU Huajun, Director of the Flood Control Office of Ganxian District Emergency Management Department, said.
