Version 4.0 of China Meteorological Administration Global Forecast System (CMA-GFS) has been put into operation since May 22, further meeting the global demand for meteorological support and ramping up the supporting capacity of global forecasting services. The predictable days of the Northern Hemisphere has exceeded 8 for the first time.
CMA-GFS is a global medium-range numerical weather prediction (NWP) model independently developed by China. After upgrading to version 4.0, the horizontal resolution of the model has been increased from 25 km to 12.5 km, integrating the Advanced Radiative Transfer modeling System (ARMS) and adding products like the precipitation phase state. At the same time, the forecasting performance of thecirculationpattern has been improved from a comprehensive perspective, and the evaluation effect has been significantly improved in the northern and southern hemispheres, East Asia and the equatorial regions.
In the midst of the upgrading, model R&D personnel further strengthened the communication with forecasters, and timely executed improvement and betterment targeted at the problems such as systematic errors and functional applications found real operational applications.
