On February 27,the national drive for weather services for spring plowing and sowing was kicked off with the first special report on meteorological services for spring farming unveiled by the National Meteorological Centre (NMC).
By reinforcing the coordination vertically with its provincial counterparts and interaction horizontally with other fellow sectors, NMC will timely roll out advisory warnings of spring agricultural meteorological disasters such as frost damage, drought and dry hot air. In addition, 1-10-day intelligent grid forecasting products have been added to the list of 12 agricultural meteorological disasters such as wind and cold in 2024 so that the agro-meteorological impact-based forecast is more refined.
With plans and arrangements made in advance, local meteorological services are ramping up monitoring, forecasting and warning of severe weather to deliver fastidious weather services for spring farming.
For instance, Hainan Provincial Meteorological Service is having its experts present in the fields for a large-scale ground observation of the early rice growing areas with multi-spectral unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a systematical sort of refined meteorological services by sub-region, time span and growth period.
At the same time, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Meteorological Service is disseminating agricultural meteorological disaster risk warning information in a targeted manner through Guangxi emergency warning information release system to accurately alert users such as different new agricultural business entities, large planters and breeders, and cooperatives.
