On September 4, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) released China's weather and climate features of August. The average precipitation was less than the long term average while the precipitation of south part of South of the Yangtze was more. In August, China's average temperature was lower than the long term average.
In August, China's average precipitation was 101.4mm, a little less than the long term average (105.3mm). From the aspect of spatial distribution, the precipitation of most places of Xinjiang, western and southeastern Inner Mongolia, most places of Northeast and North China, north part of the Yellow-Huaihe River Valley and south part of South China was 20% to 50% less, some places 80% less than long term average. However, in western Xinjiang, most places of Tibet, north and east parts of Southwest China, most places of South of the Yangtze and North part of South China, the precipitation was 20% to 50% more, some places even 100% more.
In addition, the average precipitation of Northeast and North China was 84.2mm, 32% less than the long term average (123.9mm), which has been the historical minimum since 1992. Meanwhile, the average precipitation of south part of South of the Yangtze (Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Hunan) was 208.8mm, 32.7% more than the long term average (157.4mm), which has been the maximum since 2008.
In August, 45 meteorological stations of China got extreme daily rainfall events, mainly in Sichuan, Hunan and Guizhou. 12 stations got events of consecutive days of extreme precipitation, mainly in Heilongjiang, Fujian and Jiangxi.
The average temperature of China in August was 20.6℃, 0.2℃ lower than the long term average (20.8℃). As for the spatial distribution, the temperatures of most places were lower than or similar to normal years. The temperatures from southeast of Northwest China to west of North China and from the Yangtze-Huaihe River Valley to north part of South of the Yangtze were 1 to 2℃ lower, some places over 2℃ lower. But the temperatures of northeastern Xinjiang and northern Heilongjiang were 1 to 2℃ higher. The average temperature of the Yangtze-Huaihe River Valley was 25.2℃, 2℃ lower than the long term average (27.2℃), which has been the lowest since 1981.
