From August 10 to 13, 40 experts and scholars from 10 institutions like Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Beijing Climate Centre, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Meteorological Service has formed scientific expedition. The scientific expedition team has conquered adverse weather and altitude stress, and set up the first multi-factor Beidou transmission automatic station on Dujian Mountain at the altitude of 5212.7 meters. This observatory has entered full operation on August 13. The construction of this observatory has made up the meteorological monitoring blind area in the Middle Kunlun Mountains. And the meteorological observation network has fully covered the East, West, and Middle Kunlun Mountains.

This scientific expedition is carried out under the framework of “climate change and westerly-monsoon coordinated role” of China's second comprehensive scientific expedition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The team has gained an understanding of the terrain, geological condition, and vegetation coverage in Taklimakan desert and northern slope of Kunlun Mountains on the spot. They have made plans as to the layout of automatic stations in different altitudes in the northern slope of Kunlun Mountains.
