FENGYUN meteorological satellite promotes industrial development

On November 14, during 2023 FENGYUN Satellite User Conference, representatives from relevant sectors, scientific institutions, universities, and enterprises gathered together, conducting exchanges over the industrial application of FENGYUN satellites.

From 3 to 14 June 2019, during the Eighteenth World Meteorological Congress in Geneva, delegates from 160 Member States and Territories of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) considered that the global societal risks related to extreme weather, climate, water and other environmental events should be addressed through interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral partnerships, and that the expanding opportunities to use meteorological, climatological, hydrological and related environmental information and services to inform critical decisions can foster increased societal and structural resilience, and sustainable economic development.

Tatsuya Kimura, Director of Public-Private Engagement Office of WMO Secretariat said that, Public-Private Engagement can be beneficial to every stakeholder, collaboratively providing solutions to materialize further better services to all users, meeting various needs more efficiently, sustainably, resiliently, and with even higher quality utilizing cutting-edge technology while maintaining and enhancing relevant missions, skills and expertise.

Meteorological satellites for agriculture and other industries. SUN Anlai from Beijng Huayun Shinetek Technology Co. said that meteorological data was crucial to smart agriculture and FENGYUN satellite provides data for agricultural resource survey, crop yield estimation, agricultural disaster prediction and precision agriculture.

Meteorological satellites provide data for the insurance industry. FANG Zhou from China Pacific Insurance Co. said that Meteorological layers on asset location layers can provide risk warning and meteorological information support for major engineering projects and assets along the “Belt and Road”.

A number of enterprises have increased their scientific and technological innovation to support the satellite's ability to provide scientific and technological innovation. GE Chenqi from Piesat Information Technology Co. introduced that the FengYun Earth platform, guided by the needs of forecasters, focuses on typhoons, strong convection, heavy rain and other weather, and strengthens the quantitative support role of satellite data in refined weather monitoring and early warning.

CHENG Yan from Tianjin Yunyao Aerospace Technology Co said that Yunyao actively responded to the call of CMA to give full play to the innovative vitality of private enterprises and jointly promote the high-quality development of China's meteorological industry.
