“It is a good day!” said David Hiba, Director-General of the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service.
On the evening of 19 November 2023,Honiara local time, it was cloudy and the wind was blowing gently at the National Stadium of Solomon Islands. The opening ceremony of the 17th Pacific Games was successfully held in Honiara, capital city of Solomon Islands.

However, it was not easy to make accurate forecasts for the opening ceremony, as the weather was always changing quickly and the rain was coming.
Meteorologists from China and Solomon Islands congratulated to each other. They smiled in the office where they worked jointly for days and nights. For weeks, meteorologists from the two countries have worked together for the same goal: to make acurrate forecasts for the 17th Pacific Games.
Since November, Meteorologists from both the national and provincial Meteorological Services of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) went to the Solomon Islands to work together with local forecasters for meteorological services.

Besides, CMA has provided FY meteorological satellite rapid-scan for Solomon Islands for high-resolution monitoring. A platform for weather forecasting products for the Pacific Games was set up on the website of World Meteorological Centre Beijing. Chinese meteorologists have researched and developed targeted numerical prediction models to provide weather forecast products for Solomon Islands.
Moreover, on CMA end,meetings were simutanously held for discussion of the weather conditions in Solomon Islands.
The 17th Pacific Games lasts from Novmber 19 to December 2, 2023. Meteorologists from the two countries will continue to work together to carry out weather analysis and forecasts.
